Tana lawn is one of Liberty London’s most illustrious fabrics. It’s a beautifully light cotton with a gentle sheen and oh so soft handle. It drapes beautifully when sewn into gathers, yet holds its shape as a collar or cuff. It’s easily washable and gorgeous to wear. Not only that but we have these limited edition prints on for a mere £15 per metre! (RRP £22.50)
We’ve come up with some inspiration to add some Liberty sparkle to your handmade wardrobe and give you a taste of just how versatile Tana Lawn is!
This stunning print is reminiscent of Dolce and Gabbana’s Summer Collection, full of bold large scale Passionflowers and vines on a deep navy base. It would be stunning as a long floating Named Reeta shirtdress. Perfect for wandering around a Greek island or the Spanish Riviera!
With two stunning colourways, Paradise is a fabulous mix of solid colour and sketched florals. It’s light without being sheer. Sew up the Aqua version in a Cashmerette Upton dress for the perfect summery addition to your wardrobe, available in sizes 12-28. Alternatively, use the bold cobalt and show off the large scale print with the effortlessly chic Colette Laurel. With the options of a frilled sleeve or patch pockets, you can dress it up or down depending on your style
For more subtle glamour we’ve paired the Gather Azaire shirt and dress with this elegant peacock parade. We think it would be beautiful as an ethereal top or dress. The style lines make it an unexpected piece that would be welcome in any social situation.
If you’re after something with a more vintage vibe, the swirling Sims Space Rain print is fabulous for all those 40s style dresses and blouses. We’ve paired it with the Deer and Doe Hoya blouse. Worn with black palazzo trousers, it would be perfect for dinner out, or pair it with a soft pleated chambray skirt for a picnic in the sunshine.
Looking for the perfect summer dress? With Summer holidays in full swing, it’s always great to have a sundress in your wardrobe. We’re crushing on the Green version of this Budding Vine sewn up as the versatile Sew over it Rosie dress. With cute collar option? Rouleau or flat straps? Hey even as a skirt! you can really tailor this one to fit you.
If you want to see this print more often than just in the summer, (who wouldn’t?) Why not try the blue version as some show stopping Carolyn Pjs from Closet Case patterns. We think the shorts version would be so stylish and probably the comfiest thing you’d ever worn. (Just saying…)
Talking of comfy, this funky paint splatter print has all those retro 80’s colours running through it. We would love these as a pair of Named Alexandria Trousers, ideal for when you have nothing to wear! Paired with a white vest top or even pink or blue (Try our prestige Crepe) these could make the basis of a great outfit.
Whilst were on the subject of wardrobe builders, we have the most amazing patterns from Liesl Gibson. She’s really focused on wardrobe classics with a sassy edge. Did we mention the patterns come with cup size options? Go for a twist on a classic by making the Classic Shirt in a bold graphic print like Cobalt Garden. We think it would be so luxe and not to mention you’d own a Liberty shirt for much less than the retail price. All made from your fair hands!
The last pattern pick is by far our current favourite here at FG. We’ve seen some fantastic versions of this dress and can’t wait to lounge in 70’s Margo Ledbetter style in a Charlie Caftan from Closet Case Patterns in this truly heartstopping Anemone print! The red and pink tones are perfect for warmer climes. Just add a cocktail and rock it!
